Drawing 2 - Drawing from Life (Part 3)

Class Description

This class is for folks who have a foundation of drawing skills in pencil (line, form, and value), or anyone that has taken Drawing 1 - Fundamentals.

———

This three part class will build on fundamental drawing skills by applying techniques to a still life composition.

A still life is an arrangement of objects, typically including different textures and materials, and a fixed light source. Still life drawing is a great way to practice in a controlled environment and has been used for centuries to develop skills fundamental to drawing, painting, and other visual art forms.

We will learn to observe the properties that make each object unique, how to differentiate those textures in pencil, and how to compose a pleasing image.

Students will draw from their perspective, focusing on what they see. The instructor will demonstrate different strategies for drawing the still life and will take time with each student to help develop their techniques as they work.

We will work on the same drawing over three sessions.
